TV2 contacted us with the aim of renewing the functionality and design of their portal by the time the channel’s corporate identity reform is completed. The assignment became the second project involving our new open source portal and ECMS software, Sense/Net 6.0 (code name: Portal Engine TNG – The Next Generation). In the course of the development process we also created new interactive functions and set up a system able to manage great traffic load in peak times.
During the project TV2’s old homepage was upgraded to a modern portal and enterprise content management system (ECMS). The new portal is based on the fully functional Beta 1 version of the new Sense/Net 6.0. Custom developments such as search and indexing services were also added to the standard functions of the system.
Sense/Net services in the TV2 development project included the use of webservices to integrate various systems, e.g. the TV programme database and video archives. The new portal is also a platform for the future, enabling the development of further interactive Web 2.0 based community features (commenting, blog, etc).
The enterprise content management (ECMS) functionality of the portal now enables the easy and structured management of thousands of articles and videos.

The site’s ability to manage extremely high traffic load in peak times is guaranteed by the use of enterprise grade cache and Network Load Balancing Services (NLBS).
The professionals of TV2 learned the use of the software in a day, and the launch of the new TV2 portal was followed by the first open source Sense/Net 6.0 based site development project completed by professionals outside Sense/Net, http://megasztar.hu.
